Sacral Chakra Function
The Sacral Chakra is located in the lower abdomen. Most people recognize this metaphysical energy center as being associated with the reproductive system. In the most primitive terms, your reproductive system represents your ability to either fertilize or be fertilized. In energetic terms, it represents your ability to affect, and be affected by the outside world.
In other words, your Sacral Chakra governs your creative power, emotional experience, and (physical) energetic potential.
Your Creative Power
When most people hear the word ‘creativity’, they automatically think of artistic ability. While the Sacral Chakra most certainly plays a role in manifesting works of art, the ‘creativity’ of this energy center is much more primal.
This creativity is the raw ability to affect change in the outside world. This can be something as complex as creating a new person by having a child, or simply straightening a picture hanging on the wall.

The Environment’s Influence on You Energetically
Your Sacral Chakra is akin to a ball of fire which radiates creative power like heat. Like an actual fire, the closer a person or object gets to it, the more heat they/it feels. But unlike an inanimate fire, your Sacral Chakra can ‘feel’ when someone or something is within its radiation field.
Your Sacral Chakra is energetically responsible for your ability to feel when someone is ‘in your space’.
If your Sacral Chakra is working properly, having people around will go relatively unnoticed. However, when there is too much pressure in the Chakra due to a blockage, or the energy is radiating too far out from your body due to over-use, the presence of others can result in an ‘invasive’ feeling.
The effects of this can result in feeling physically and emotionally uncomfortable and/or drained. Not surprisingly, almost every introvert has issues with their Sacral Chakra.
But it’s not just people who can have a negative impact. Negativity in the environment can also be detrimental. Cluttered homes, electromagnetic radiation, and chemical pollutants will have a major effect on both your energy levels and emotions if your Sacral Chakra is in a vulnerable state.
Proper Sacral Chakra Function
When your Sacral Chakra is functioning properly, you will enjoy:
- a healthy reproductive system
- sound energy reserves
- general creativity
- positive feelings and attitude
- balanced emotions
- and feeling comfortable in most environments
Conversely, improper function may result in:
- reproductive and hormonal issues
- low energy or lack of motivation
- hyperactivity or restlessness
- creative blocks
- destructive behavior
- emotional instability or lack of emotion
- and hyper-sensitivity to your environment
Balancing Your Sacral Chakra
If your Sacral Chakra is out of balance, there are a few simple things you can do to get it back in working order.
For all Sacral Chakra issues, physical exercise or exertion should be your go-to balancing method! It doesn’t matter what you do – whether you go to the gym a few days a week, or just sit down less throughout the day. Every tiny bit of exercise helps!
Limit or increase your spicy food intake. If your Sacral Chakra is over active, as evidenced by restlessness, hyper-sensitivity, etc., try cutting back on the spicy foods. If you’re on the low-energy and emotionless side of the spectrum, try an increase in these. The same goes for eating orange foods.
Find an artistic outlet. If you weren’t blessed with the traditional forms of artistic talent, just fake it! Sing along with the radio. Get some adult coloring books. Or just go into your local craft store and see if anything sparks your interest. Even if your artwork isn’t fit for public display, you’ll still reap the energetic benefits of expressing your creativity!
If all else fails (which it won’t), wear more orange, or surround yourself with more orange objects. You can even get some of these cool color-therapy glasses!
Remember, Chakra Balancing doesn’t have to be complex. Just do what comes most naturally to you and everything else will fall into place!
